SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Tech Blue Devils kicked off their season with a 1:00 PM game, securing a hard-fought 38–28 home-opener victory against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. Head coach Oscar Olejniczak watched his team set the tone early, unleashing an explosive, balanced offense that dominated the flow of the game and kept the crowd energized from the opening drive.
Quarterback Ryan Schuster put on a masterclass behind center to lead the offensive charge. Schuster was razor-sharp, completing 21 of his 30 pass attempts for an impressive 341 yards and three touchdowns through the air, while also calling his own number to punch in a rushing touchdown. Ground support came through the determined running of Jon Jasionowski, who racked up 55 yards on 13 carries, and Jaylen Flowers, who added 27 yards and a touchdown of his own to complement Schuster's 33 rushing yards.
The Blue Devils' receiving corps proved to be unstoppable downfield, creating massive chunk plays all afternoon. Owen Pittenger served as Schuster's primary target, catching 6 passes for a game-high 141 yards and a touchdown. Jaylen Johnson provided explosive support with 4 receptions for 97 yards and a score, while Ethan Fisher hauled in an 11-yard touchdown pass to round out the dynamic aerial attack.
When Saint Mary-of-the-Woods tried to rally, the Lawrence Tech defense stood tall, anchored by a monstrous performance from defensive end Tray'Vion Hunter. Hunter was a constant terror in the backfield, tallying 8 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and 2 quarterback hurries. Supported by linebacker Karter Schmitt's 5 tackles, the defense forced crucial stops and kept the ball in the hands of their cruising offense.
By the final whistle, Lawrence Tech had amassed 474 total yards of offense while playing flawless, turnover-free football. Controlling the clock for over 32 minutes and dominating third downs, the Blue Devils locked up their first victory of the year and established an imposing momentum for the season ahead.
