No. 2 Lawrence Tech Rebounds with 17-9 Win Over No. 4 Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- The 2nd-ranked Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's lacrosse team defeated 4th-ranked Georgetown (Ky.) College 17-9 on Sunday afternoon in Georgetown, Ky.

Lawrence Tech (1-1) took the early lead as Teagan Laier (FR/Howell, Mich.) made it 1-0 off a pass from Anna Gagnon (SO/Grand Haven, Mich.). Marci Schaeffer (SR/Eaton Rapids, Mich.) gave Lawrence Tech the 2-0 lead followed by Isabelle Vickers (SR/Rockford, MI) first of the day to give LTU the 3-0 lead with 19:58 left in the first half. Georgetown got one back, but the Blue Devils responded as Ashley Sherry (FR/Savage, Minn.) scored to make it 4-1.

Georgetown (3-1) cut the lead to 4-2, but four straight goals by Lawrence Tech gave the Blue Devils an 8-2 lead. The Tigers got a late goal, giving LTU an 8-3 lead at the break.

Lawrence Tech opened the second half with four goals in the first three minutes to push their lead to 12-3. Vickers, Laier, and Sherry all scored and Ashley Collins (SR/Hartland, MI) scored her first of the season. The Tigers added a pair of goals to cut the lead to 12-5, but the Blue Devils responded with another three straight goals, these from Sherry, Gagnon, and Gabi Larkin (SO/South Lyon, Mich.) to make it 15-5. Georgetown scored with 13:36 left in the game to make it 15-6 and added three goals in the final three minutes to end the game, 17-9. Gagnon and Schaeffer added late goals for Lawrence Tech.

Marie Klonowski (SR/Gurnee, IL) made seven saves for Lawrence Tech, notching her first win of the year in goal. Dorie Coggin (FR/Hamilton, Ohio) saw her first collegiate action, entering the game with 3:44 left. Vickers finished the game with six goals and three assists followed by Sherry with three goals. Collins recorded four assists and a goal while Schaeffer, Laier, and Gagnon added two goals each. Larkin finished with one goal and four draw controls.

Lawrence Tech is back on the road March 3 when they travel to Charleston, W. Va. to open spring break at the University of Charleston (W.Va.). Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
