SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -The 3rd-ranked Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's lacrosse team had a couple of firsts in a 21-2 win over Cleary (Mich.) University on a cold and windy Tuesday afternoon at the LTU Athletic Field in Southfield, Mich.
Lawrence Tech (6-2, 1-0) took the lead at the start the game and ran with it, giving up only one goal in each half. There were two career firsts; Megan Roden (FR/Jackson, Mich.) (FR/Jackson, Mich.), scoring her first career goal off an assist from Isabelle Vickers (SR/Rockford, MI) (SR/Rockford, MI), and Axey Vang (FR/Brooklyn, Minn.) (FR/Brooklyn, Minn.), scoring three goals includine her first collegiate goal. It was also Vang's first three-goal game of her collegiate career.
Top attackers were Anna Gagnon (SO/Grand Haven, Mich.), with five goals and two assists, and Vickers, with four goals and three assists, each drawing seven points. Following them was Ashley Sherry (FR/Savage, Minn.), with four goals and one assist, and Ashley Collins (SR/Hartland, MI), with one goal and five assists, each causing five points. Teagan Laier (FR/Howell, Mich.) drew a total of four points with two goals and two assists, and finally, Bella Crispino (SR/Ann Arbor, MI) with two points by one goal and one assist.
With a total of five shots on goal, Marie Klonowski (SR/Gurnee, IL), recently named WHAC and NAIA Defensive Player of the Week, allowed one goal with three saves and two ground balls. Dorie Coggin (FR/Hamilton, Ohio) allowed one goal with two saves and one ground ball in the second half.
After Vickers secured the opening draw control, LTU took the lead scoring 12 goals to Cleary's one in the first half and nine to one in the second. However, at the same time, the Blue Devils and the Cougars were even in draw controls, until the second half the Devils pulled ahead taking seven of 11.
Collins said after the game, "It's great to have a lot of different people scoring, Both goalies got in and played great. We are excited to see this team effort as it will help us against Marian."
The Blue Devils are back at home this Friday, March 23th at 5 pm to take on No. 9 Marian (Ind.) University.
