ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 3rd-ranked Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's lacrosse team cruise past Concordia (Mich.) University - Ann Arbor 23-2 on Wednesday evening in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Lawrence Tech (9-3, 2-1) got back to their winning ways at Concordia, taking a 2-0 lead in the first 61 seconds. Isabelle Vickers (SR/Rockford, MI) scored 24 seconds in to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead followed by Ashley Collins (SR/Hartland, MI) 35 seconds later to take the two goal lead. Lawrence Tech scored six more goals over the next eight minutes and thirty-seconds to extend the lead to 8-0. Teagan Laier (FR/Howell, Mich.), Anna Gagnon (SO/Grand Haven, Mich.) (x2), Marci Schaeffer (SR/Eaton Rapids, Mich.), and Ashley Sherry (FR/Savage, Minn.) all scored for the Blue Devils.
Concordia (3-10) scored their first goal of the game at the 19 minute mark, but another four straight goals from Lawrence Tech gave LTU a 14-1 lead. Sherry scored back-to-back goals to push the lead to 10-1 followed by Kaylee Patterson (JR/Flint, Mich.) and Gagnon to make it 12-1. The Cardinals got one back at the 5:33 mark of the first half, however the Blue Devils closed the half with three goals including Patterson's as time expired to send LTU up 15-2 at the break.
The Blue Devils added eight more goals in the second half, outscoring the Cardinals 8-0 to win the game 23-2. Schaeffer opened the second half with a goal assisted by Sherry followed by Collins, Gagnon, Laier, Gagnon, a pair from Patterson, and a the final tally from Vickers. Lawrence Tech finished with 13 assists including an Lawrence Tech single-season record seven assists from Collins.
Laier added two assists while Schaeffer, Sherry, Vickers, and Gabi Larkin (SO/South Lyon, Mich.) had one each. Marie Klonowski (SR/Gurnee, IL) started in goal, going 30 minutes allowing a pair of goals. Dorie Coggin (FR/Hamilton, Ohio) made four saves in the second half while allowing no goals for the Blue Devils. Samantha Shatrau started in goal for Concordia, allowing 21 goals and making just one save in 51 minutes of action.
Lawrence Tech is back in action Saturday, April 14 at No. 6 Indiana Tech. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m. in Fort Wayne, Ind.
