No. 3 Blue Devils fall at No. 5 Indiana Tech 15-12 as Warriors score eight straight in second half to complete comeback

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The 3rd-ranked Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's lacrosse team fell at No. 5-ranked Indiana Tech 15-12 on Saturday afternoon in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Lawrence Tech (9-4, 2-2) opened the game with a 5-1 lead as Anna Gagnon (SO/Grand Haven, Mich.) (Collins) made it 1-0 in the first minute. Isabelle Vickers (SR/Rockford, MI) (Collins) made it 2-0 at the 26:16 mark of the first half before Indiana Tech scored five minutes later to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Blue Devils responded with three straight goals. Collins nets her first of the game from Vickers to extend the lead to 3-1 and a by a power-play goal from Gagnon gave Lawrence Tech the 4-1 lead with 16:40 left until halftime. Vickers gave the Blue Devils a 5-1 lead off a free-position, however the Warriors added three straight goals in the final seven minutes of the half to make it a one goal game at 5-4. Teagan Laier (FR/Howell, Mich.) gave Lawrence Tech a 6-4 lead with an assist from Collins to head into halftime up two goals.

Indiana Tech had plenty of chances of in the first half, but Dorie Coggin (FR/Hamilton, Ohio) made eight saves, including four from free-position attempts, to keep the Blue Devils ahead at the break. The Warriors came out in the second half and set the tone with a shorthanded goal to cut the lead to 6-5 less than three minutes into the action.

Gagnon gave the Blue Devils a 7-5 lead, but Kristina Scott answered for Indiana Tech to cut it back to one goal at 7-6. Collins made it 8-6, but eight straight goals from Indiana Tech gave the Warriors a 14-8 lead with 11:39 left in the game.

The Blue Devils responded with four straight goals to make it 14-12 as Collins cut the lead to 13-9. Vickers scored a goal off the free-position to make it 14-10. Laier scored back-to-back goals to make it 14-12, but a late yellow card put the Blue Devils down a man and the Warriors capitalized, taking a 15-12 lead with 29 seconds left in the game.

Coggin made 12 saves in her first conference start, allowing 15 goals on 28 shots on goal. She was 7-for-10 in free-position saves. Collins once again led the way with six points - three goals and three assists. Gagnon, Vickers, and Laier added three goals each in the loss. Vickers finished with two assists while Marci Schaeffer (SR/Eaton Rapids, Mich.) recorded one assist.
