SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The 3rd-ranked Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's lacrosse team defeated Madonna (Mich.) University 23-5 on Wednesday night at the LTU Athletic Field in Southfield, Mich.
Lawrence Tech (10-4, 3-2) gave up the games opening goal, but scored the next 10 goals to take a nine-goal lead with 18:04 left in the first half. Marci Schaeffer (SR/Eaton Rapids, Mich.) (Sherry) scored the first of her six goals to tie the game at 1-1. Ashley Collins (SR/Hartland, MI) made it 2-1 followed by a trio of goals from Isabelle Vickers (SR/Rockford, MI) to push the lead to 5-1. Katja Nuler (SO/Canton, Mich.) gave Lawrence Tech a 6-1 lead followed by Schaeffer's second to make it a 7-1 game. Gabi Larkin (SO/South Lyon, Mich.) scored the next two goals while Collins closed the 10-0 run with her second of the game.
Madonna (1-12, 0-5) made it an eight goal lead at the 17 minute mark, but the Blue Devils answered with a 5-0 run to extend its lead to 15-2 with 6:28 remaining in the first half. Schaeffer opened the run with her third goal of the half followed by Ashley Sherry (FR/Savage, Minn.) and Vickers. Schaeffer closed the run with her fourth and fifth goals of the half. Madonna added their third of the game at the 4:16 mark, but Schaeffer's sixth and Teagan Laier (FR/Howell, Mich.)'s first of the game sent LTU to the locker room up 17-3.
In the second half, the Blue Devils added six more goals to finish the game up 23-5. Laier opened the half with her second of the game, 1:31 into the second. Larkin added her third of the game three minutes later to make it 19-3. Madonna made it 19-4 and than 20-5 before the Blue Devils closed the game with three goals - Sherry, Laier, and Nuler. This was Nuler's second career two-goal game.
Schaeffer finished with a game high six goals followed by Vickers with four goals and one assist. Collins added two goals and two assist while Larkin added three goals and two assists. Laier finished the game with three goals on three shot followed by Nuler and Sherry with two goals each. Marie Klonowski (SR/Gurnee, IL) started in goal making one save on four shots, giving up three goals in 30 minutes of action. Dorie Coggin (FR/Hamilton, Ohio) gave up two goals on two shots in the second half of the game.
Lawrence Tech wraps up the regular season with Senior Day at LTU Athletic Field on Saturday, April 21 when they host [RV] Lourdes (Ohio) University at 12 p.m.
