SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The 3rd-ranked Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's lacrosse team defeated [RV] Lourdes (Ohio) University 19-7 on Saturday, April 21 at the LTU Athletic Field on Senior Day.
Lawrence Tech (11-4, 4-2) opened the scoring with senior Isabelle Vickers (SR/Rockford, MI) notching her first of the day less than a minuted into the game. Lourdes answered with a goal at the 26.27 mark of the first half to tie tha game at 1-1, however Lawrence Tech went on a 7-0 run to take an 8-1 lead with 17:07 left in the half. Marci Schaeffer (SR/Eaton Rapids, Mich.) (Collins) made it 2-1 at the 24:52 mark followed by Teagan Laier (FR/Howell, Mich.), Vickers (A. Barnewold), Anna Gagnon (SO/Grand Haven, Mich.) (Collins), Ashley Sherry (FR/Savage, Minn.), Gagnon (Collins) second of the game, with Vickers ending the run.
Lourdes (8-7, 2-4) made it an 8-2 game with a goal at 16:07, but the Blue Devils closed the half scoring eight of the next 10 goals to take a 16-4 lead into the break. Laier (Collins) scored her secnd of the game to give LTU a 9-2 lead, but Alyssa Long responded for Lourdes to make it 9-3. The Blue Devils kept scoring though, as Abby Barnewold (FR/Lake Orion, Mich.) (Collins) made it 10-3 as Lawrence Tech ended the half with six straight goals including their Gagnon's (Collins) second goal of the game as time expired. Gagnon (Larkin) opened the closing run with goal followed by Sherry, Laier, Vickers, and Sherry.
At halftime, the Blue Devils honored their four seniors, all who have earned NAIA All-American honors in their careers. Collins, Vickers, Schaeffer, and Marie Klonowski (SR/Gurnee, IL) all earned multiple honors throughout their careers and helped the Blue Devils reached the NWLL National Championship game and the NAIA Invitational Championship Game in back-to-back years and won the conference championship title twice - one regular season title and one tournament title.
In the second half, the Blue Devils added three more goals to finish the game up 19-7. Gabi Larkin (SO/South Lyon, Mich.) (Gagnon) scored to open the first half followed by Megan Roden (FR/Jackson, Mich.) scoring her second of the season. Katja Nuler (SO/Canton, Mich.) wrapped up the Blue Devils goals for the game with her fifth of the season.
Collins led the game with seven assists, matching her single-game record. Vickers added a game-high four goals while Schaeffer recorded one goal in her final regular season home game. Marie Klonowski played 40 minutes in her home finale and made seven saves. Gagnon recorded four goals while Laier added three goals.
Lawrence Tech now awaits their seeding as the WHAC Tournament begins April 27.
