FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The No. 3-ranked Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's lacrosse team defeated No. 6-ranked Siena Heights (Mich.) University 13-10 on Friday night in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Lawrence Tech (12-4) opened the scoring as Teagan Laier (FR/Howell, Mich.) (Collins) scored the opening goal, 1:59 into the first half. The Saints responded with a goal from Kayla Parks to tie the game at 1-1, 20 seconds later. Ashley Sherry (FR/Savage, Minn.) (Vickers) and Isabelle Vickers (SR/Rockford, MI) (Collins) scored back-to-back goals to take a 3-1 lead with 20:09 left in the half. The Saints cut it to 3-2, but two more goals from Anna Gagnon (SO/Grand Haven, Mich.) (Laier) and Gabi Larkin (SO/South Lyon, Mich.) (Gagnon) extended the lead to 5-2.
Siena Heights (13-4) made it 5-3 at the 16:44 mark with Lawrence Tech responding with another two goals from Laier (A. Barnewold) and Vickers (Laier) to push the lead to 7-3. The Saints added two goals in the final 12 minutes to make it a 7-5 game at halftime. The Saints made it 7-6 out of the break, but three straight Blue Devils goals gave Lawrence Tech a 10-6 lead. Sherry scored a pair while Laier scored her third of the game before the Saints made it 10-7 with 23:44 left in the game.
The Saints scored three of the next five goals to cut the lead to 12-10, but Lawrence Tech closed the game with a goal from Larkin (Collins) to seal the semifinal win, 13-10. Marie Klonowski (SR/Gurnee, IL) made sixteen saves in net, keeping the Saints to just 3-for-10 from free-position shots to finish the night with a .615 save percentage. Sherry, Laier, and Larkin finished with three goals each while Gagnon and Vickers scored two goals each.
The Blue Devils now face host Indiana Tech on Saturday, April. 28 at 1 p.m. in the WHAC Tournament championship game.
