INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) men's tennis team participated in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Tournament hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University (Ind.) and organized by the ITA on September 13-15. This was a doubles and singles tournament and the format was elimination in every round.
The Blue Devils' doubles pairings were Alejo Tintore-Godall (FR/Barcelona, Spain) and Robert Saitov (JR/Ufa, Bashkortostan, Russia), Alexander Tammaro (FR/Caracas, Venezuela) and Alex Fernandez-Rajal (FR/Barcelona, Spain), and Marc Kerndl (JR/Grafing, Germany) and Lukas Obel (FR/Weybridge, England).
Tammaro and Ferndandez-Rajal were the top LTU pairing in the doubles tournament and made it to the second round. In their first match, they beat Giovanni Martinez and Sebastian Salas of Huntington University (Ind.) 8-3. Danny Boussom and Martim Cafe of Goshen College (Ind.) eliminated them on the second round with an 8-4 score. The rest of the LTU doubles pairings were eliminated in the first round and participated in the doubles consolation draw. Kerndl and Obel made it to quarterfinals, Tintore-Godall and Saitov lost in their first match.
The top LTU player in the singles draw of the tournament was Fernandez-Rajal, who was the only Blue Devil that made it to the second round. The rest of the team participated in the singles consolation draw, which was won by Tammaro.
The Blue Devils will be back on the court on Wednesday, September 19 at 4:00 PM in Adrian, Mich. when they face Adrian College (Mich.).
