Griffin Mertz, competed at the Johnson–Murdoch Tennis Center on Saturday against Grace College, securing key wins despite overall team losses.
Women's Match: Grace College 5 - 2 Lawrence Tech
Sophomore
Isabella Aray (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) was a standout, producing a commanding 6–3, 6–1 win to give LTU its first point. Senior
Jacqueline Alcocer (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) followed with a marathon victory, edging her opponent in a deciding third set to round out the Blue Devils' scoring.
In doubles, the pair of Alcocer and sophomore
Claudia Calabuig (Villena, Spain) battled hard, pushing Grace to a close 7–5 decision.
Men's Match: Grace College 6 - 1 Lawrence Tech
Senior
Takuya King (Novi, Mich.) and freshman
Tyler Brunsell (Commerce Twp., Mich.) combined for a solid 6–4 double win. In singles, freshman
Cael Guthrie (San Roque, Spain) delivered a composed performance, earning a 6–4, 6–3 victory.
