Box Score SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- Coming in as the three seed in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Playoffs, the Blue Devils had something to prove. As a top-10 team within the NAIA Coaches Poll all season, it was evident that anything less than a trip to the semifinals wasn't going to cut it for the Blue Devils.
It made for a unique playoff atmosphere the first in Blue Devils Stadium in over 3 years with snow falling at game time. The result was a 20-6 win over the Pilots of Bethel (Ind.), their second win over the Pilots in less than a week.
Abby Smentowski led all scorers on Tuesday night with 6 goals. Bella Van Buren, Ashley Sherry, and Gabi Larkin all had 3 goals on the evening. Anna Foley and Kady Waits each had 2 goals on Tuesday evening. Dorrie Coggin would go the complete game for Lawrence Tech, giving up only 6 goals on the evening for the senior goalie.
Lawrence Tech dominated in the Ground Ball category with 32 ground balls than just 7 for Bethel (Ind.). Lawrence Tech had 42 shots compared to Bethel's 17 shots. Lawrence Tech also outdid the Pilots in draw controls 18-8.
Looking ahead, the Blue Devils will head to the West End to play against Aquinas in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Thursday evening.
