Box Score 2 Southfield, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological University D1 men's hockey team played Cleary University over the weekend in a pair of games. Game one resulted in an LTU win by a final score of 4-2. Game two ended with a final score of 9-1.
How It Happened – Saturday 1/28
- James Jentz began the scoring for the Blue Devils in the opening five minutes of play. Bryce Ebert and Alec Allen were awarded the assist.
- Late in the first period, with under a minute to play, Allen found the back of the net on a power-play goal. Assisted by John Horn and Patrick McGowan.
- LTU was up 2-0 heading to the first intermission.
- Extending the Blue Devils lead to 3-0 was McGowan at the 13:56 mark in the second period. Brenden Preiss and Garrett Sample on the assist.
- Cleary finally got on the board after a Ben Gledhow goal.
- With 6:44 remaining in the second period, McGowan snuck one by the goalie for his second goal of the game to put the team up 4-1. Allen and Jack Lebar were awarded the assist.
- LTU entered the intermission up 4-1.
- Cleary scored the only goal in the third period but was not enough as the Blue Devils came out on top by a final score of 4-2.
How It Happened – Sunday 1/29
- McGowan started the high-scoring affair for LTU at the 6:28 mark. Ebert was awarded the assist.
- Seconds later, the Cougars tied things up at one from a Zach Perry goal.
- Midway through the first period, Blake Heier ripped a shot past the goalie to give the Blue Devils the lead again. Cole Therrian and Preiss granted the assist.
- LTU entered the intermission up 2-1.
- The Blue Devils caught fire in the next two periods scoring seven goals.
- The two goals in the second period came from a shorthanded goal by Therrian and a Sean Pilet power-play goal that put the team up 4-1 heading into the intermission. Thimo Ey, Jentz, and McGowan were given the assists.
- The third period was all LTU on offense when Pilet scored another power-play goal just five minutes in.
- Jordan Woytas slid one by the goalie at the 16:59 mark to extend the lead to 6-1.
- The goals keep pouring out in the third after another power-play goal from McGowan seconds later.
- McGowan and Woytas scored their second goals of the game in the 19th minute just 13 seconds apart.
- LTU would go on to win this game by a final score of 9-1.
