Box Score West Palm Beach, FL - The #3 Lawrence Technological University women's lacrosse was back on the turf against Ave Maria University on Thursday evening. The Blue Devils led after one and never looked back as they took control of the Gyrene by a final score of 13-6.
How It Happened: AMU 6, LTU 13 Final
Ave Maria would take the lead early in this one less than a minute after the face off.
Kady Waits and
Abbey Smentowski scored back-to-back goals in the next four minutes.
Minutes later, the two connected on another pair of goals to give the Blue Devils a 4-1 lead.
Waits scored her third goal of the match just before the first period ended.
LTU scored five unanswered goals to lead 5-1 after one.
Smentowski opened up the scoring for LTU as they were up 6-1 with 13:44 left in the second period.
Abigal Seiler made it 6-2 for the Gyrene possessions later.
Within a three minute span, Waits, Smentowski and
Bella Burke were able to extend their cushion to 9-2.
Heading into the half, the Blue Devils were up seven.
A little over a minute into the second half,
Hannah Huebner made it 11-3.
Both teams went scoreless in the next five minutes of play after Huebners goal.
A goal by Emma Davis made it 11-4.
At the 2:09 mark in the third period,
Abby Barnewold ripped one by the goalie to enter the fourth up eight.
Not much offense in the final period of the game as the first goal of the fourth period came from Burke to put the team up 13-4.
Ave Maria's two late goals in this one was a little too late as the Blue Devils won by a final score of 13-6.
