Box Score Livonia, MI - The #3 Lawrence Technological University women's lacrosse team competed against Madonna University on the road Saturday afternoon in the rain. The Blue Devils got off to a hot start despite the weather and were in control for the rest of the game as they would go on to breeze past the Crusaders by a final score of 16-4.
The Blue Devils improved to 7-0 all-time against the Crusaders.
How It Happened: LTU 16, MU 4
- The Blue Devils first goal came three minutes in after Kady Waits found the back of the net.
- Two more goals within a span of less than a minute by Abbey Smentowski and Alaina Smythe put LTU up 3-0.
- With 9:34 left in the first, Bella Burke ripped one past the goalie to extend the lead.
- Smythe's second goal of the game made it 5-0 just a minute later.
- Madonna's first goal came at the 6:57 mark.
- Burke was able to score off of a free position shot to end the period up 6-1.
- LTU scored four unanswered goals in the first six minutes of the second period.
- Waits and Gabi Mitchell stacked up two more goals a piece.
- A goal by the Crusaders cut the margin to 10-2 with 8:27 left in the half.
- Waits recorded her fourth goal of the game midway through the period.
- Just over two minutes later, Mitchell scored her third goal of the game to give LTU a 12-2 cushion at the break.
- Smentowski started the scoring for the Blue Devils to open up the third period.
- Five minutes into the third, Madonna scored off of a free position shot to bring the deficit within 10.
- Both teams went scoreless in the next five minutes of play on just one shot.
- Hannah Huebner ended the scoring drought to put her team up 14-3 at the 5:23 mark in the third.
- Waits added another goal to close out the third period up twelve.
- Waits continued her stellar performance with her sixth goal to start the fourth.
- Over the next eight minutes, both teams struggled to find the back of the net.
- With 1:38 remaining, Madonna scored a late goal from a free position shot.
- The Blue Devils would beat Madonna by a final score of 16-4.
