Williamsburg, Ky. – The Lawrence Technological University softball team played its first game of five at the Bear Creek Tournament on Friday afternoon, falling to #22 Cumberlands 5-0.
How It Happened:
- Lawrence Tech had runners on first and second with two outs in the top of the first but Lauren Fife was thrown out at home to end the frame after a Clover Brandt single to right
- After a scoreless first inning, Cumberlands capitalized on a lead-off walk, bringing the first run of the game home on a sacrifice fly to center field
- Two batters later, following another LTU walk, the Patriots launched a 3-run home run to right field to cap off a four-run second
- The Blue Devils went down in order in the third before the Patriots brought another walk around to score via a sacrifice fly, extending its lead to 5-0
- Lily Morrissette started the seventh with a single to left, but the following batter grounded into a double play to halt any momentum of a comeback
Inside the Numbers;
- Brandt started in the circle for LTU, throwing four innings of four-hit ball, allowing five earned
- Grace Roeske came on to pitch two innings of scoreless relief, striking out two while walking one
- LTU's four hits came from four different batters
Lawrence Tech returns to the diamond for a pair of games tomorrow, Saturday the 19th, starting at 11 am versus Indian South Bend before taking on Huntington at 4 pm.
