Box Score West Palm Beach, FL - The #3 Lawrence Technological University women's lacrosse team traveled to West Palm Beach, Florida to compete against the top team in the nation Keiser University. After the Blue Devils jumped out to a early 3-0 lead, the team held the lead the entire game to upset the #1 Seahawks by a final score of 12-9.
How It Happened: #1 Keiser 9, #3 LTU 12
Just a little over five minutes into play,
Alaina Smythe put LTU on the board first
Minutes later at the 7:40 mark,
Sydney Robinson was able to sneak one past the goalie to go up two.
Extending the margin to 3-0 was
Kady Waits, from a ball by
Hannah Huebner.
Closing out the first period was Keiser after they scored their first goal of the game.
A more of a defensive second period after only two goals were scored.
Talia Myers from the Seahawks made it 3-2 less than three minutes in.
With 10:21 left in the second, Waits scored her second goal to stretch the lead.
LTU was up 4-2 at the break.
Less than thirty seconds into the second half, Keiser got on the board.
Back-to-back goals by
Bella Burke, and
Abbey Smentowski increased the lead to 6-3 for the Blue Devils.
The Seahawks scored two unanswered goals within the next span of 45 seconds.
With 5:16 to go in the third, with a women-up
Abby Barnewold sliced one by the goalie, assisted by
Gabi Mitchell.
Hannah Huebner extended the cushion to 8-5 minutes later.
Keiser would score right before the period ended to enter the fourth down 8-6.
The biggest lead of the game came after Waits's fourth goal of the game with 7:00 remaining. LTU was up 11-7.
The two late goals by the Seahawks was just not enough in this one.
 Mitchell would score the game winning goal to help the #3 Blue Devils upset the top ranked Seahawks by a final of 12-9.
