Southfield, MI - The #1 Lawrence Technological University women's lacrosse team was back on the field at home when they took on Life University Wednesday night. A hard fought defensive game for both teams led to LTU coming out on top in the end by a final score of 11-8.
How It Happened: LTU 11, Life 8
- A goal 30 seconds in by Abby Barnewold gave the Blue Devils an early lead.Â
- Life tied it back up at the 10:46 mark in the first.
- Five minutes later, Hannah Huebner found the back of the net to give LTU the lead back 2-1 to end the first period.
- Barnewold extended the margin just two minutes into the second period.
- A goal with 8:03 left by Nicole Ortiz put the Eagles back within one.
- Sydney Robinson scored back-to-back goals to close out the half 5-2.
- Ortiz scored her second goal of the match to start off the third period.
- With 9:42 remaining in the third period, Barnewold scored her third goal of the game.
- With a man down with just over five minutes to play, Kady Waits helped her team go up 7-3 after her goal.
- Ending the half with two unanswered goals was Alaina Smythe and Abbey Smentowski to give the Blue Devils some cushion going into the fourth.
- LTU was up 9-3.
- 45 seconds into the fourth, Robinson extended the lead to seven.
- Life came back and answered with a goal of their own.
- With 10:47 left to play, Huebner scored her 11th goal of the season.
- In the last 10 minutes of action, the Eagles made a late push scoring four straight goals but it was just too late.
- LTU won this game 11-8 to extend their winning streak to eight games.
