Box Score Adrian, MI - The #1 Lawrence Technological University women's lacrosse team played (RV) Siena Heights University on the road Wednesday evening in a wet contest as the rain poured down. LTU would start off slow in the first period, but would only allow the Saints to score five goals in the next three periods as the Blue Devils went on to win by a final score of 19-8.
Abbey Smentowski led the way with five goals for the Blue Devils,
Gabi Mitchell recorded four assists, and
Bella Burke picked up six ground balls.
How It Happened: SHU 8, LTU 19
- A goal three minutes in from the Saints put them on the board first.
- A couple minutes later, Sydney Robinson found Mitchell on the attack to tie the game up.
- Just under midway through the first, Siena Heights went up one after a Emily Pringle goal.
- Smentowski would deliver a tying goal at the 8:32 mark.
- The Blue Devils would score a trio of goals to end the first.
- Alaina Smythe scored two, both assisted by Mitchell, and Burke also snuck one past the goalie.
- LTU was up 5-3 after one.
- The Blue Devils wouldn't let up after scoring four straight goals to start the second.
- Robinson scored 15 seconds in, and Abby Barnewold followed up with a goal of her own minutes later.
- Smentowski scored her 30th goal of the season with 11:16 to play before the break.
- Seconds later, Hannah Huebner tacked on another goal to make it 9-3.
- Siena Heights ended their drought midway through the second from a goal by Hannah Merrick.
- Smentowski, Mitchell, and Robinson all scored again to enter the locker room up 13-6.
- LTU went on another run in the third scoring four straight goals in the matter of a five minute stretch.
- The Blue Devils were up 18-7 after three.
- LTU would control most of the clock in the final period only scoring one goal from Robinson.
- The Blue Devils would defeat the Saints 19-8.
