Softball Completes Season in WHAC Tournament

Box Score Sylvania, OH - The #7 seeded Lawrence Technological University softball team opened up the first round of the WHAC double elimination tournament against #2 seeded University of Michigan-Dearborn. The Blue Devils would struggle to get the bats going in this game as they would fall short by a final score of 7-2. The Blue Devils would play Cornerstone in their second game of the double elimination tournament. A late rally in game two was just a little too late as LTU would drop game two in extra innings 9-8 (F/9).

How It Happened: Game One Double Elimination - UMD 7, LTU 2
  • UMD scored three unanswered runs in the bottom of the second from a three RBI double to left.
  • LTU would score on in the bottom of the fourth from a RBI single by Erin Wehler to bring around Lauren Lanphear who singled earlier in the inning.
  • Both teams were shut out in the fifth.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, the Wolverines rallied to score four on four hits and one error to extend their lead to 7-1.
  • The Blue Devils tried to rally in the seventh after two singles from Sarah Hige and Callie Tatum.
  • Lanphear came up next and hit one up the middle to drive in Hige from second.
  • LTU would leave two base runners stranded on first and second to end the game.
  • LTU would fall short by a final score of 7-2.
By The Numbers:
  • Clover Brandt went 5.2 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 3 BB, 1 K
  • Hige went 3-for-4 with a run.
  • Lanphear went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
  • Mazie Lawler, Wehler and Tatum all recorded a hit.

How It Happened: Game Two Double Elimination - CU 9, LTU 8 (F/9)
  • Cornerstone went up 1-0 in the first after an RBI groundout to shortstop.
  • LTU took the lead in the top half of the second after Tatum singled up the middle to drive home Larissa Mercado and Lawler.
  • The Blue Devils would build the lead to 5-1 after Lanphear and Lauren Fife both drove in runs on their singles
  • The Golden Eagles scored two in the fifth to bring the game to 5-3.
  • After a three run sixth by CU on a single and homer to center, LTU was down 5-7.
  • Coming through clutch in the seventh was Hige and Tatum to give the team a 8-7 headed into the bottom half.
  • Cornerstone scored one in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings.
  • LTU could not capitalize in the eighth or ninth as CU scored a walk off in the ninth to beat the Blue Devils 9-8 (F/9)
By The Numbers:
  • Grace Roeske threw 6.1 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 1 K. Grace Schriber and Brandt combine for 1.3 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 1 K
  • Tatum and Lanphear combine for 6-for-11 and five RBIs.
  • Fife and Lawler both recorded two hits. Fife two RBIs.
