No. 3 Blue Devils Tie ACHA D3 Men's Hockey Program Record with 16th Straight Win

Lawrence Tech downed defending national champion and 13th-ranked Michigan, 5-1

DEARBORN, Mich.--Sweet 16! Playing its third game in as many days didn't daunt the nationally-ranked Lawrence Tech American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 3 men's hockey team, which tied a program record on Sunday with its 16th win in a row after dispatching 2023 national champion Michigan, 5-1, at the University of Michigan at Dearborn Field House Ice Arena.

The Blue Devils are now 19-3-1 on the season and 11-0-1 in the Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference East Division, while the Wolverines fall to 12-5 overall and 2-5 in the conference.

Lawrence Tech Highlights
  • Sophomore Luke Radu led all scorers with three points on two goals and an assist.
  • Junior Gavin Holmes added three assists and sophomore Benjamin De Haas had a pair.
  • Junior goalie Timothy Young picked up the victory after a 29-save performance. 
UofM Highlights
  • Gavin Peppei scored the Wolverines' lone goal.
  • Will Rathmanner and Will Robinson also had a point with an assist each.
  • Aaron Loch made 28 saves.
How it Happened
  • After the teams skated to a scoreless first period, LTU asserted itself in the second with three goals in a span of 4 minutes and 9 seconds to take control after spotting Michigan a 1-0 lead.
  • Peppei opened the scoring with 9:57 left in the second period, but Radu tied it 1:43 later at 8:14. Then at the 7:09 mark, freshman Tommy Walsh gave the Blue Devils the lead for good before Jake Stawinski completed the scoring spree at 4:05.
  • Senior Connor Juhasz and Radu tacked on third-period goals as LTU increased its lead to the final 5-1 margin.
Beyond the Boxscore
  • Lawrence Tech maintains its No. 3 position in the fifth ACHAMD3 national rankings this week. Michigan fell three spots to 13th.
  • Lawrence Tech has won 16 games in a row dating back to its last loss on Oct. 15 versus second-ranked Florida Gulf Coast University, 3-2 in overtime at home.
  • Today was a makeup of the Jan. 12 game originally scheduled for LTU's Farmington Hills Ice Arena, but was postponed due to snowy travel conditions for the visitors. So LTU served as the home team at the UM-Dearborn venue.
  • The 16 consecutive wins ties the program set by the 2022-23 squad.

  • Lawrence Tech will be idle until Friday and Saturday, Feb. 2-3, when it will host non-conference foe University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown for the Blue Devils Winter Classic outdoors at Clark Park in Detroit.
