Mens Hockey Continues Their Dominant Starts

| By:
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Blue Devils D1 and D3 mens hockey teams have been on fire to begin their season with a 6-2 win vs Ferris State for D3 and a sweep of Concordia for D1. D1, in their first conference series of the season, won game 1 against Concordia 3-2 and then followed that up with a 10-3 win in their home opener.

The D3 team took on Ferris State in their home opener after starting the season 3-0-0. Ferris opened up the scoring in the first period, but the Blue Devils would respond quickly to tie it from a goal by Jeff Rand off of a nice feed by Luke Radu. Sawyer Walker would then bury one from center ice, while killing a 5 on 3, to make the score 2-1 Blue Devils. Will Jentz would continue putting pressure on FSU, scoring with a second left in the first period to extend the lead. The second period would find Blake Holtkamp's first goal as a Blue Devil, once again extending the lead for LTU. The Luke Radu to Jeff Rand connection would create LTUs 5th goal of the game on the powerplay. Will Jentz would bury his second goal of the night and ultimately put Ferris away, although Ferris did add one more goal in the third to make it a 6-2 final. Shots on goal were dominated by the Blue Devils, who peppered the Ferris goalie with 57 shots on goal. The defending national champs continue to dominate and will look to keep their momentum as they head into their matchup against Grand Valley on the 18th and 19th of October.

The D1 Blue Devils would open up the scoring in game 1 at Concordia by the hands of Nick Chiapetta in the first period. Nick Berrettini would then bury a behind the back pass from Thimo Ey to make it 2-0 Blue Devils. Concordia would score to end the first period of play 2-1. Concordia would score the only goal of the second period and head into the third with a tie game at 2. Maximus Nguyen would score the dagger for the Blue Devils in the third to give the Blue Devils their 2nd win of the season and extend their winning streak to 2 games.

Game two for D1 saw Kevin Bond opening the scoring 4 minutes into the game. Just a minute later, Avery Pittman extended the LTU lead to 2. Concordia wouldnt go away, scoring one to end the first period and make it 2-1 heading into the second. Dylan Magdich opened up period 2 with a bank shot off of a Concordia defender to make it 3-1 LTU. Once again, the Cardinals would not go away, tying the game at 3 heading into the final frame of play. LTU would end up dominating in the third period, scoring 7 goals in the third alone. Starting off the scoring wave was Thimo Ey, who made it a 4-3 LTU lead. Extending the lead to 2 was Kaden Hemme. The 6th LTU goal was Adrian Gonzalez-Marin. The Blue Devils kept pouring it on, with the 7th LTU goal by Maximus Nguyen. Making it 8-3 was Justin Hubenschmidt on a bottle popping goal. Kevin Bond scored his second goal of the night to make it 9-3 Blue Devils. The final goal of the game, the 10th goal of the night, was Adrian Gonzalez-Marin scoring his second of the night. With this victory, the Blue Devils would extend their winning streak to 3 games. The D1 Blue Devils will be back in action on the 18th and 19th of October, where they will be facing Aquinas.

Both the D1 and D3 mens hockey teams have caught fire and will look to continue their incredible performances as the season goes on.
