Box Score 3 Rosemont, Ill. - The Lawrence Tech softball team opened up their season in the NAIA Leadoff Classic at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex hosted by Roosevelt University on Friday. The Blue Devils went 2-1 on the day.
The Blue Devils got a pair of late runs to break open a pitcher's duel as Lawrence Tech shut out Roosevelt by a score of 2-0. Just three hours later the Blue Devils faced Indiana South Bend ending the game in 5 innings with a 9-1 win. The Blue Devils got a short break until the played their third and final game of the day against William Penn. With a back and forth game, the Blue Devils fell to William Penn, 9-8.
How it happened:
Game 1: It was a scoreless game up until the top of the 7th inning, the Blue Devils scored 2 runs. Junior
Gloriana Su'a hit a single which brought in freshmen
Abby Gardner who was on second to score the first run of the game. Later in that inning, senior
Mazie Lawler hits an RBI which caused senior
Nicole Powrozek to score the second run. Senior
Clover Brandt pitched for the Blue Devils allowing 7 hits for Roosevelt and zero runs scored.
Game 2: The Blue Devils put up four runs in just the first inning alone, going into the second with a 4-0 lead. The Blue Devils continued to apply the pressure as they put up another run int he second inning. The Titans finally put a run on the scoreboard at the top of the third making the score 5-1. The Blue Devils responded putting up three more runs in the bottom of the third. Lawrence Tech went on to score one more run in the fourth inning. The Titans had one more chance to continue the game into more innings before the Blue Devils mercied them. The Titans failed to do so ending the game early, the Blue Devils winning 9-1. Sophomore
Mikayla Timm pitched for the Blue Devils allowing 2 hits for Indiana South Bend and one run scored.
Game 3: Lawrence Tech started out the scoring for the Blue Devils in the first inning with senior

Zoey Markey double to left field. William Penn responded quickly in the second inning putting up 2 runs. Lawrence Tech came back to tie it in the second inning making it 2-2 heading into the third. William Penn went on to add three more runs in the third inning while the Blue Devils added two. William Penn scored another run in the forth inning as well as Lawrence Tech making the score 6-5 in favor of William Penn heading into the fifth inning. The Blue Devils trying to make a come back scoring a run in both the fifth and the sixth inning breaking the tie. William Penn came back again, scoring three runs in the ninth inning, the Blue Devils looking to come back once again, but could not, scoring only one more run, ending the game at 9-8 in favor of William Penn.
The Blue Devils will head out to Columbus, Georgia on Feb. 16-18 for the NFCA Leadoff Classic. They will face William Carey, Thomas University, and Johnson University all on Friday.
