SAGINAW, Mich. - Lawrence Tech University produced a record-setting day at the SVSU Jet's Pizza Invitational on Saturday in Saginaw, Mich., as the Blue Devils delivered multiple school records, a national-qualifying relay performance and a series of standout personal bests across the track and distance events.
Headlining the meet was the distance medley relay, which broke the school record and punched its ticket to the NAIA National Championships. The Blue Devils' new standard currently ranks No. 5 in the nation, underscoring both the depth and balance of the relay squad. The performance capped an impressive effort from Lawrence Tech's middle-distance and distance group in a strong invitational field.
Lawrence Tech's women's 4x400-meter relay also rewrote the program record book. The quartet of Martina Montserrat-Vilar, Brianna Comer, Alianna Lewis and Anaiia Simmons combined for a school-record performance that now sits No. 19 nationally. Their effort added another nationally relevant mark for the Blue Devils and highlighted the strength of the team's women's sprint corps in the late stages of the meet.
Individually, Simmons added to the relay success with a record of her own in the 200 meters. The Blue Devils sprinter broke the school record in the event, continuing her rise as one of the program's key point scorers. Her performance helped anchor a strong day for the women's sprints, which played a significant role in the overall team momentum.
On the men's side, Cameron Krebs delivered one of the top individual highlights by breaking the school record in the 400 meters. Krebs clocked 49.24 seconds, establishing a new program standard and marking a significant step forward in the one-lap event for Lawrence Tech. His time reflects both a strong early-season form and the potential for further advancement as championship season approaches.
Distance standout Clara Mackey added another record to the tally in the 3,000 meters. The freshman shattered the Lawrence Tech freshman record in the event, cutting 27 seconds off her personal best while moving to No. 2 all-time in school history. Mackey's performance signaled both immediate impact and long-term promise, as she continues to climb the program's all-time lists in her first collegiate campaign.
With multiple school records, a national qualifier in the distance medley relay and several nationally ranked marks, the Blue Devils left Saginaw with significant momentum. Lawrence Tech will look to build on these performances next Saturday, Feb. 7, when the team competes at Grand Valley State University in the Kelly Family Sports Center in Allendale, Mich.
