ALLENDALE, Mich. - Lawrence Tech turned in one of its most productive days of the indoor season at the GVSU Mike Lints Alumni Open on Saturday, leaving the Kelly Family facility with 20 personal records and multiple entries rewritten in the Blue Devils' record book.
The women's sprints and hurdles led a strong overall showing. Martina broke the school record in the women's 60-meter dash, highlighting a fast day on the straightaway. Her performance not only secured a program best but also set the tone for a lineup that continued to lower times across the board in preliminary and final rounds.
Two freshmen added their names to the Lawrence Tech record lists with standout efforts in different events. Noaha Mitchell established a freshman record in the 60-meter hurdles, signaling a promising future in the short hurdles for the Blue Devils. On the distance side, Clara Makey set a freshman record in the 3,000 meters, capping a consistent race with a strong finish to claim the top mark by a first-year runner in program history.
The Blue Devils also made history on the track in the men's 4x400-meter relay, where the quartet of Shall, Krebs, Cureton and Bodary combined for a school record. The relay group executed a balanced effort, keeping the baton in contention from the opening leg and closing hard on the anchor to secure the new standard.
Individually, Camron delivered one of the meet's most notable victories by winning the 400 meters under adverse circumstances. Despite being involved in a collision during the race, Camron regained composure, got back into rhythm and still managed to pull away late to finish on top of the field. The win highlighted both competitive toughness and race awareness in a crowded event.
Across the roster, athletes capitalized on the competitive environment to post personal records in a variety of disciplines, from sprints and hurdles to distance and relays. The 20 PRs collected over the course of the day reflected steady progress through the winter training block and provided encouraging benchmarks as championship season approaches.
Lawrence Tech will look to build on the momentum next week when the Blue Devils return to Allendale, Michigan, for the GVSU Big Meet Feb. 13 and Feb. 14 at the Kelly Family Sports Center. With multiple school and freshman records already falling, the team enters the next competition aiming to continue its upward trajectory on the indoor circuit.
