HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - After a 36 hour match suspension, the Lawrence Tech men's tennis team finished their match with Spring Arbor University (Mich.) on Wednesday morning at HH Motorcoach Resort. Lawrence Tech was trailing 4-3 with No. 2 and No. 5 singles left when darkness suspended the match. Once resumed, the Blue Devils fell 5-4 following the conclusion of the matches.
On Monday, LTU's No. 2 doubles team of Javier Alvarez (FR/Santiago de Compostela, Spain) and Sergio Lopez (JR/Madrid, Spain) defeated John Hall and Tony Mayotte 8-6 the team's lone doubles point. At No. 1 doubles, Vincent Colarossi (FR/Dearborn Heights, MI) and Mason Wenzel (FR/Howell, MI) dropped its match 2-8, while Chad Northey (FR/Livonia, MI) and Jacob Lachowicz (FR/Howell, MI) fell to Drew Herlein and Andrew Fitzpatrick 1-8 to give SAU a 2-1 lead heading into singles matches.
At No. 1 singles, Colarossi dropped his match against Michael Derling 6-4, 6-2, while Alvarez defeated Hall at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-0. Mason Wenzel fell at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-0 to Herlein with Jacob Lachowicz taking down Jacob Byrd at No. 6 singles, 4-6, 7-5, 14-12.
On Wednesday morning, Sergio would go on to win his match at 6-1, 6-2. Northey lost the first set 7-5, but won the second set 7-6 (4) to force a super tie-breaker. Northey fell in the 10 point tie-breaker, 10-2 to give SAU the win 5-4. It was the first loss this trip and the first in four matches for the Blue Devils.
LTU returns to the court on Thursday, March 12 to face Roosevelt College (Ill.) at HH Motorcoach Resort on Hilton Head Island at 12:00pm.
