SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's soccer team honors its four seniors - Ryan Fernandez (SR/Rochester Hills, Mich.), Derek Butcher (SR/DeWitt, MI), Chris Lange (SR/Washington Township, MI), and Tyler Winningham (SR/Canton, MI) - on Saturday, October 22 during their match with Lourdes (Ohio) University. Senior day festivities will start at 3 p.m. with the match starting at 3:30 p.m.
Lawrence Tech (8-4-2, 3-3-2 WHAC) enter senior day riding a three game winning streak, outscoring their opponents 7-0 in the process. Max Jewett (FR/Sterling Heights, Mich.) has started all three games in net and has not allowed a goal since the 52nd minute of the Madonna (Mich.) University game on October 12. Jewett has made 12 saves over that timeframe including a clean sheet against Concordia (Mich.) University - Ann Arbor where he did not face a shot.
The Blue Devils are led by Nico Rbp (FR/Madrid, Spain) with eight goals, seven assist, and 23 points. Winningham is second on the team in points with eight - two goals and four assists in 12 games.
Lourdes (6-5-1, 1-5-1 WHAC) enter Southfield on a having lost five of their last seven games including a 1-0 loss to Cornerstone (Mich.) University on Wednesday, October 19. The Gray Wolves are led by Jake Kirchoff-Sleet with 13 goals and six assists. Jose Cedillo has started 10 games in net for Lourdes, making 40 saves on 58 shots while allowing 18 goals. Kevin Omore is second on the team in goals with six while Judah Goodridge has tallied four in 12 games.
LTU will honor four seniors before the game - Fernandez, Butcher, Lange, and Winningham. Fernandez has played in over 38 games, scoring three goals and assiting on one. He has earned WHAC All-Academic and NAIA Scholar Athlete honors. Lawrence Tech Head Coach Will Dyer says of Fernandez, "He is relentless on and off the field. You will not find anyone to match his work ethic. He is an all-around great person!"
Butcher is another four-year player, playing in 32 games with three goals and four assists. Coach Dyer says of Butcher, "I am proud of the way he has matured and stepped up in our program. He's become a staple in our back line."
Lange returned for his fifth year following a redshirt season and has played in over 56 games during his collegiate career, scoring one goal and having one assist. "Chris has a big heart and has really matured these past five years. He has a powerful foot and just being around him makes you smile," says Dyer.
Three-year player and current captain, Winningham leaves as the first LTU men's soccer player to earn First Team All-WHAC honors, he did so in 2015. He has played in over 47 games and has seven goals and five assists. Winningham also earned WHAC All-Academic honors in 2015. Dyer says of Winningham, "He is a born leader and has been our heart and soul since he joined us three years ago."
"All four seniors have seen our lows and highs in our short history here at LTU," says Dyer. "All four leave an everlasting memory of how we play and how we've grown as a program."
