ALBION, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University (LTU) men's tennis team defeated Albion (Mich.) College on Wednesday 6-3 to open the 2016 spring tennis season.
Lawrence Tech (7-0) used a strong performance from the two doubles teams as a shorthanded Blue Devils squad was able to take a 2-1 lead into the singles matches. Sergio Lopez (SR/Madrid, Spain) and Javier Alvarez (SO/Santiago de Compostela, Spain) won their match 8-2 while Vincent Colarossi (SO/Dearborn Heights, MI) and Mason Wenzel (SO/Howell, MI) took No. 2 doubles 8-4.
In singles, Lopez cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 1 followed by a three-set win at No. 2 by Alvarez to give the Blue Devils a 4-2 lead. Colarossi and newcomer Robert Saitov earned the final two points for LTU to give the Blue Devils a 6-3 win at NCAA Division III Albion.
Lawrence Tech is back on the courts Saturday, February 13 at 6 p.m. at the Franklin Raquet Club in Southfield, Mich.
