SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University (LTU) men's tennis team moved to 8-0 on the season following a 9-0 win over Alma (Mich.) College on Saturday night at Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, Mich.
Lawrence Tech (8-0) swept the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead on Alma. Mason Wenzel (SO/Howell, MI) and Jan Horstkoetter (FR/Cologne, Germany) got the first point for the Blue Devils with an 8-2 win over Noah Ackerman and Tristen Fox at No. 3 doubles. Sergio Lopez (SR/Madrid, Spain) and Javier Alvarez (SO/Santiago de Compostela, Spain) gave LTU a 2-0 lead with an 8-4 win over Jared Guy and B.J. Schutte at No. 1 doubles. Vincent Colarossi (SO/Dearborn Heights, MI) and Robert Saitov defeated Luke VanFleet and Damien Arthur 8-4 at No. 2 doubles to give LTU a 3-0 lead heading into the singles matches.
In singles, Lopez easily dispatched Guy, 6-0, 6-1 to give the Blue Devils a 4-0 lead. Horstkoetter sealed an eighth straight win for LTU with a straight sets victory, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. Saitov handled Arthur at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0, while Wenzel (6-1, 6-1) and Colarossi (6-3, 6-0) won at No. 4 and No. 3 singles. Alvarez was last off the court as cruised to a 6-4, 6-0 win over Schutte at No. 2 singles.
Lawrence Tech is back on the courts Saturday, February 20 when they host Hillsdale (Mich.) College at Dearborn Racquet and Health Club in Dearborn, Mich. First serve is set for 12 p.m.
