SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's tennis team will travel to Upland, Indiana today to take on Taylor (Ind.) University. First match will start at 2:00 p.m.

This will be the second meeting between these two teams, the first coming on September 10, 2015, when LTU beat Taylor 6-3. Sergio Lopez (SR/Madrid, Spain) was victorious at No. 2 doubles winning 6-4, 6-2. Javier Alvarez (JR/Santiago de Compostela, Spain) also won his match at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-3, while Jan Horstkoetter (SO/Cologne, Germany) cruised to win at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 5 singles was Mason Wenzel (JR/Howell, MI) winning 6-3, 6-1.

The Blue Devils opened their 2016 season with a win over Huntington University on August 24. At No. 1 doubles, Lopez and Alvarez defeated Poncio and Manzo 8-5, and Horstkoetter and Wenzel beat Martinez and Baranowski 8-5 at No. 2 doubles. Colarossi and Stijn Bremer (FR/Arnhem, Gelderland, Netherland) were also successful over Deutsch and Buttermore, 8-2.

Alvarez and Robert Saitov (SO/Ufa, Bashkortostan Republic Ru) won their singles matches at No. 2 (6-5, 6-3) and No. 3 (6-0, 6-1) spots. Horstkoetter defeated Baranowski at No. 4 singles, while Wenzel and Colarossi both had wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots respectively.

Taylor University is coming off an 8-13 season from 2015. They are returning 10 student athletes, including senior Juan Ramirez who finished last season 12-10. Also returning is Jonathan Forte, who comes off a 6-6 record from his junior year.
