DETROIT, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's tennis team was nearly swept by Wayne State (Mich.) University 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon in Detroit, Mich.
At first doubles, Javier Alvarez and newcomer Juan Bermudez were defeated 8-6 while Jan Hostkoetter and Mason Wenzel fell 8-3 at second doubles. At No. 3 doubles Vincent Colarossi and Stijn Bremer also fell 8-6.
The only Blue Devil to record a win in the singles competition was Bremer at No. 6 singles. At first singles, Bermudez was bested by Mats Westkamp 6-1, 6-2 while Alvarez fell 6-0, 6-2 to Griffin Mertz at second singles. No. 3 singles was won by Clement Charriere, 6-0, 6-2 over Robert Saitov. At fourth singles Horstkoetter was topped by Luke Ruocco and Wenzel fell 6-1, 6-2 to Harvey Reed at fifth singles.
Lawrence Tech is back on the courts Saturday, February 18 hosting Lake Superior State (Mich.) University at 5:00 P.M. at the Franklin Athletic Club.
