SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's tennis team came up short this afternoon, falling 8-1 to No. 4 University of Northwestern Ohio at the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, Michigan.
In doubles competition, Javier Alvarez and Juan Bermudez recorded the only LTU victory on the day at first doubles, taking down Radu Popa and Iustin Baciu 8-4. Jan Horstkoetter and Mason Wenzel battled at second doubles but went on to fall 9-7 to Jean-Marc Krone and Ronnie Myburgh while Vincent Colarossi and Stijn Bremer dropped their match at third doubles 8-6.
The Racers finished off singles play in a clean sweep, starting with Bermudez at first singles. Theo Baudin was able to upend him 6-0, 6-2. Alvarez was knocked off 7-5, 6-1 by Popa at second singles while Robert Saitov fell 6-2, 6-0 at third singles. Horstkoetter was defeated 7-5, 6-2 at fourth singles by Gjorgji Popovski. Bremer and Wenzel fell 6-2, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-3 at fifth and sixth singles respectively.
The Blue Devils wrap up the regular season with a home contest against No. 19 Cornerstone (Mich.) University on Friday, April 21 at the Southfield Tennis Courts. First serve will happen at 4:00 PM.
