Blue Devils Down Cornerstone 7-2

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's tennis team had no problem with No. 19 Cornerstone (Mich.) University this afternoon as they coasted to a 7-2 win at the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, Michigan.

In doubles competition, Lawrence Tech (13-8, 1-3 WHAC) took two of the three flights. Javier Alvarez and Juan Bermudez finished with a 9-7 win over Marc Lerch and Francisco Fernandez at first doubles while Vincent Colarossi and Stijn Bremer won by Golden Eagle forfeit at third doubles. Jan Horstkoetter and Mason Wenzel were defeated at No. two doubles by Sam Ottosen and Austin Hendrick, 9-8 (8-6).

LTU went on to command the singles play, winning five of six flights. Bermudez narrowly fell short at first singles to Lerch, falling 6-4 in set one to counter with a 7-6 (6-4) win in set two. Lerch finished with a 7-5 win in the third set to bring home the victory. At second singles, Alvarez defeated Fernandez 6-3, 6-3 after falling in the first set 4-6.

Horstkoetter and Hendrick split third singles 6-2, 4-6, but Horstkoetter prevailed, winning 10-6. At fifth singles Bremer knocked off Ottosen 6-2, 6-4 and Wenzel wrapped up No. 6 singles with a win due to Golden Eagle forfeit.

The Blue Devils are back in action on April 28 as they compete in the WHAC tournament in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
