FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's tennis team earned a 9-0 victory this afternoon as they cruised past the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
In the doubles competition, No. 1 doubles duo Javier Alvarez and Juan Bermudez rolled Nathan Barger and Jay Stanchin 8-2 while Jan Horstkoetter and Mason Wenzel took down Tyler Christlieb and Tony Tomeh 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. Vincent Colarossi and Stijn Bremer finished the doubles sweep with an 8-0 win over John Richter and Alex Stavritis at third doubles.
The Blue Devils continued their success into singles play, where Bermudez stumped Barger at first singles, 6-3, 6-3 while Alvarez defeated Stanchin 6-0, 6-1 at second singles. At No. 3 singles, Horstkoetter was victorious over Stavritis 6-1, 6-0 and Bremer took down Christlieb 6-2, 6-2 at fourth singles. Wenzel and Chad Northey easily won 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-1 over Richter and Tomeh at fifth and sixth singles.
Lawrence Tech now improves to 16-4 on the season and will resume Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on April 12 with a 6:00 PM match against Davenport (Mich.) University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
