LTU Opens Weekend with Aquinas Doubleheader Today at 1:00 PM

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University softball team welcomes (RV) Aquinas (Mich.) College to St. Catherine Academy this Saturday for a 1:00 PM doubleheader in Wixom, Michigan. Concordia (Mich.) University will also visit the Blue Devils this weekend on Sunday for a doubleheader. First pitch for game one is set for 2:00 PM.

LAST TIME OUT

Due to inclement weather, Lawrence Tech (12-18, 2-4 WHAC) has not played games since suffering two losses on April 2 to University of Michigan-Dearborn, dropping the first game 6-1 followed by a 5-4 (9 innings) loss. Cherilyn Banas recorded the lone run in game one after being batted in from a Bailey Brown double.

Alexa Cherney took the loss on the mound, recording six runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and three walked batters.

Banas led the Blue Devils in game two with two hits in four at bats and one notched run. Alina Molette tallied a team high two RBI's along with a run while Hanna Ruddock and Jackie Mattingly both finished with one run each.

Sydney Schultz finished with the loss, allowing three runs in 12 hits and four walked batters and as many strikeouts.

SCOUTING THE SAINTS

Aquinas is 23-4-1 this season, improving their record with a pair of wins against Indiana Tech on April 2 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Saints took game one 8-3, led by Ann Hardin who went 3-for-4 at the plate, including a double and homerun, recording three runs and two RBI's. Anna Kenny also finished with a double and homerun after going 4-for-4 on the day. Kenny brought in two RBI's and tallied a run.

Marisa Loya opened on the mound, notching five strikeouts before being relieved by Mia Loya who recorded two strikeouts. Danielle Kirby came in to pitch for the remaining two innings, allowing three runs in four hits.

Game two went to the Saints 7-1. Ellie Adams paced AC, going a perfect 3-3 at the plate while Alex Forsythe recorded a team-high two runs. Mandy Rosol allowed one run on two hits while on the mound for the Saints. Rosol also notched three strikeouts.

Mary Iliopoulos paces Aquinas with a team best 0.397 batting average, totaling 27 hits. Iliopoulos also leads the team in stolen bases with 14, averaging 0.52 per game. Ann Hardin has earned a team-high 21 RBI's to average 0.75 per game. Marisa Loya is averaging 6.66 strikeouts on the mound, totaling 71 on the season.

Aquinas ranks sixth in the NAIA in earned run average (1.490), 14th in doubles per game (1.893), 15th in steal attempts per game (2.571) and 17th in stolen bases per game (2.214).

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS

Concordia enters this contest with an overall record of 10-19-3, 3-3 WHAC with an upcoming game against Lourdes (Ohio) University on April 8. They recently split with No. 7 Davenport (Mich.) University on April 2, falling in game one 9-1 to come back and win game two 2-0.

The Cardinals have amassed 86 runs, 180 hits, 28 doubles, three triples and 13 homeruns with a 0.237 batting average. On the season, they have 76 RBI's, 90 strikeouts and 20 stolen bases.

Amy Trionfi leads the team with a 0.323 batting average after totaling 32 hits. Samantha Capuzzi has brought in a team best 0.79 RBI's, 22 total on the season while Tyffani Bryan paces the Cardinals in stolen bases with six. On the mound, Samantha Eubanks has posted a 2.24 ERA and Jessica England leads the pitchers in strikeouts with an average of 4.76 per game.

Concordia ranks 24th in the NAIA in innings pitched per game (6.736), 25th in chances per game (30.586) and 26th in putouts per game (20.207).
