Cardinals Take Home Both Wins in Today's Doubleheader

WIXOM, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University softball team was shut out twice today as they hosted Concordia (Mich.) University in Wixom, Michigan. LTU dropped game one 8-7 followed by a 5-3 loss in game two.

Game One - LTU 7, Concordia 8

It didn't take long for the Cardinals to put a run up on the board as they earned a 1-0 lead after one inning of play. LTU answered with a run of their own in the second on a Hanna Ruddock single to left field that scored Brooke Dillon. One inning later, Lawrence Tech took the lead 2-1. Bailey Brown capitalized on a Concordia error to reach and was brought home thanks to Dana Bigham who singled down the left field line.

Concordia went on a seven-run spree over the span of four innings, building their lead to 8-2. The Blue Devils tightened their rally caps heading into the seventh inning. Mary Armstrong led-off, earning a base on balls. Brown singled to right, advancing pinch runner Sydney Schultz to second to bring up Alina Molette. Molette also earn a base on balls before Meredith Adams stepped up to the plate, crushing a 2-run RBI out to right field, lessening the Cardinal lead to 8-4 as Schultz and Brown scored.

Brooke Dillon gave LTU an additional three runs with her fourth homerun of the season, scoring Adams and Molette, closing the gap 8-7. A groundout from Alex Amos and a pop-up by Ruddock would seal the game in favor of the Cardinals.

Schultz took the loss on the day, allowing five runs in eight hits with one walked batter and one strikeout. She was relieved by Alexa Cherney who finished with three allowed runs on eight hits, four walked batter and five strikeouts.

Game Two - LTU 3, Concordia 5

CU started game two taking a 2-0 lead after three innings. With two outs in the bottom of the third Adams dug deep to send a 2-run homer over the fence, scoring Brown to even the score 2-2.

After a quiet fourth inning from both teams, Concordia added two more runs in the fifth, retaking the lead 4-2. They extended that to 5-2 in the seventh after a single to center field. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Bigham singled to bring around Adams but a Genna Skalski popup would cap the game 5-3.

Brittney Bult finished the nightcap with the loss, allowing five runs on 10 hits with one walked batter and one strikeout.

The Blue Devils now drop to 12-22, 2-8 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on the season. They welcome Indiana Tech to St. Catherine Academy on April 11 for a 3:30 PM doubleheader.
