SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The eighth-seed Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University softball team gears up to face No. 1 seeded Davenport (Mich.) University this evening in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament in Sylvania, Ohio. First pitch is set for 6:00 PM.
LAST TIME OUT
Lawrence Tech (22-26, 8-12) finished up their regular season with a brace of wins over Rochester (Mich.) College on April 29, taking game one 16-0 in five innings and game two 12-7.
Dana Bigham had the hot bat in game one, recording three runs on three hits, including a double, bringing around two RBI's. Alina Molette added three runs, and two RBI's on her homerun while Brooke Dillon, Jackie Mattingly and Bailey Brown contributed two runs apiece. Brown's four RBI's was a team-high. Alexa Cherney was in the circle for LTU, recording eight strikeouts, holding the Warriors to just two hits.
Bigham continued to hit well in the second game, tallying four runs on three hits, adding two RBI's. Molette and Adams both rounded the bases twice while Mattingly, Dillon, Mary Armstrong and Cherilyn Banas finished with one run each.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Davenport is coming off a six game winning streak, recently taking down the University of Michigan-Dearborn on April 28 in their final regular season doubleheader. The Panthers took game one 4-0 followed by a 7-6 win in game two. Kennedy Crawford paced DU in game two with two runs, going 2-for-4 at the plate. Lauren French added a run after going 3-for-4 while Lindsay Tasma, Alexa Flores, Briana Allen and Aby Brambila all recorded one run each.
Flores hits a team best .439, totaling 58 hits on the season while bringing in a team-high 1.12 RBI's per game. French is leading the team in stolen bases with 16 total while Teunissen paces the pitches with a 1.58 ERA.
As a team, Davenport ranks No. 2 in the NAIA in fielding percentage (0.927), No. 8 in opponent batting average (0.210) and No. 11 in earned run average (1.700). They have accrued 254 runs, 387 hits, 82 doubles, eight triples, 25 homeruns and 228 RBI's.
SERIES HISTORY
The Blue Devils are 1-1 against the Panthers, splitting a doubleheader on April 19 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Game one went to Davenport 4-0; Lauren French led with two runs and three hits while McKenzie Rowe and Alexa Flores added one run apiece. LTU's Meredith Adams, Brooke Dillon and Hanna Ruddock recorded the only three Blue Devil hits.
Game two was a stronger performance from Lawrence Tech, winning 3-0. Bailey Brown recorded a team-best two runs while Alina Molette added the third. Alexa Cherney was in the circle for LTU, allowing only six hits while striking out six in 26 at bats.
