UPLAND, Ind. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's tennis team dominated Taylor (Ind.) University on Friday afternoon with a 9-0 win in Upland, Ind.
Lawrence Tech (2-0) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead as Jan Horstkoetter (SR/Cologne, Germany) and Stijn Bremer (SO/Arnhem, Gelderland, Netherland) gave the Blue Devils their first point of the match with an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles. Vincent Colarossi (SR/Dearborn Heights, Mich.) and Mason Wenzel (SR/Howell, Mich.) won a tough match at No.3 doubles to move LTU to a 2-0 lead before Javier Alvarez (SR/Santiago de Compostela, Spain) and Robert Saitov (SO/Ufa, Bashkortostan Republic Ru) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at No. 1 singles.
Alvarez led off the singles flights with an 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles followed by a win at No. 6 singles as Wenzel won 6-1, 6-0 to seal the match win for Lawrence Tech at 5-0. Saitov gave LTU a 6-0 lead with a straight-sets win at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 7-5. Horstkoetter made it 6-0 with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles followed by Patrick Szymczyk win at No. 5 singles.
Bremer sealed the shutout with a solid win at No. 2 singles, defeating Christian Jacquottet 7-5, 6-2.
The Blue Devils face Marian (Ind.) University on Saturday, August 26 in a doubles tournament in Indianapolis, Ind. Lawrence Tech opens their home fall schedule on September 6 when they host Tiffin (Ind.) University at 4 p.m.
