NOTRE DAME, Ind.- The Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) men's tennis team ended the 2018 fall season on a high note after defeating Holy Cross College (Ind.) 8-1.
Lawrence Tech won all three doubles flights. At court-one doubles, Alex Fernandez-Rajal (FR/Barcelona, Spain) and Alexander Tammaro (FR/Caracas, Venezuela) won 8-3 against John Page and Ben Beekman. Doubles pair Robert Saitov (JR/Ufa, Bashkortostan Republic, Russia) and Lukas Obel (FR/Weybridge, England) defeated Dominic Gibson and Dylan Euzarraga with an 8-3 score at doubles-two. At court-three doubles, Alejo TIntore-Godall (FR/Barcelona, Spain) and Viktor Kolesnychenko (FR/Lviv, Ukraine) defeated Jake Brown and Mac Flannery 9-8 after winning the tiebreak 7-5.
The Blue Devils won four singles flights and lost one. In singles-three, Fernandez-Rajal defeated Euzarraga 7-5 and 6-3. At four-singles, Tintore-Godall defeated Brown with a score of 6-3 and 6-2. Obel won the five-singles match against Beekman in two 6-0 sets. Kolesnychenko won his match at six-singles against Derek Wappel in two sets and a super-tiebreak. Kolesnychenko lost the first set 6-7, after losing the tiebreak 2-7; and won the second set 7-5 and the super-tiebreak 11-9. The Saints retired one-singles due to injury; hence, the point was given to the Blue Devils. Saitov lost his match against Gibson at court-two singles with a score of 3-6 and 4-6.
The Blue Devils finished the 2018 fall season with a 4-1 record after defeating Taylor University (Ind.), Adrian College (Mich.), and John Carroll University (Ohio) in addition to today's match, and losing against Judson University (Ill.).
