No. 20 Lawrence Tech Falls at Davenport 8-1 on Friday Afternoon

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The 20th-ranked Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's tennis team fell to Davenport (Mich.) University 8-1 on Friday, February 16.

Lawrence Tech (5-3) trailed 3-0 after the doubles matches as Davenport won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, 8-2 at No. 2 doubles, and 8-5 at No. 3 doubles. In singles matches, Diaz earned the lone point for Lawrence Tech with a 6-1, 7-6 (5), 7-5 win at No. 1 singles. In No. 2 singles, Javier Alvarez (SR/Santiago de Compostela, Spain) battled in a hard fought first set tie-breaker, but fell 7-6 (0), 6-3.

Stijn Bremer (SO/Arnhem, Gelderland, Netherland) also fought hard in his opening set, taking it to a tie-breaker, but falling 7-3 in the tie-breaker. Bremer lost the second set 6-1. At No. 4 singles, Robert Saitov (SO/Ufa, Bashkortostan Republic Ru) played the first set close, but also fell 7-5 and 6-3 in the second set. Jan Horstkoetter (SR/Cologne, Germany) and Mason Wenzel (SR/Howell, Mich.) dropped their matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles to finish the match as an 8-1 loss.

Lawrence Tech is back on the court March 2 when they travel to Hillsdale (Mich.) College for a 4:30 p.m. match.
