SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's tennis team fell 6-3 to Wayne State (Mich.) University on Wednesday, February 7.
Lawrence Tech (5-2) tied with Wayne in singles but failed to take any wins in doubles. Pat Szymczak and Mason Wenzel (SR/Howell, Mich.) (No. Three Doubles) were the first to fall at 8-3. After, Javier Alvarez (SR/Santiago de Compostela, Spain) and Robert Saitov (SO/Ufa, Bashkortostan Republic Ru) (No. Two Doubles) fell 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. Lastly, in No. 1 doubles, Jan Horstkoetter (SR/Cologne, Germany) and Stijn Bremer (SO/Arnhem, Gelderland, Netherland) fell in a close 9-7 match.
In Singles, No. 5 Jan Horstkoetter was first to finish their match, falling to Wayne States' Derek Sammons 6-1, 6-4. The second match to finish was No. 1, Daniel Diaz, the first of the Blue Devils to secure a 6-4, 6-2 win. Alvarez was fourth to finish, falling 6-2, 6-4. Robert was the last singles to finish, getting another 7-6, 6-4 win.
Lawrence Tech is back on the court February 16 when they travel to NCAA DII Davenport (Mich.) University in Grand Rapids, Mich.
