SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The 20th-ranked Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's tennis team defeated Alma (Mich.) College 9-0 on Friday afternoon at Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, Mich.
Lawrence Tech (12-3) opened up a 3-0 lead on the Scots as Daniel Diaz (JR) and Mason Wenzel (SR/Howell, Mich.) earned the first point with an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles. Javier Alvarez (SR/Santiago de Compostela, Spain) and Robert Saitov (SO/Ufa, Bashkortostan Republic Ru) gave Lawrence Tech a 2-0 lead with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles. Jan Horstkoetter (SR/Cologne, Germany) and Stijn Bremer (SO/Arnhem, Gelderland, Netherland) finished the sweep with an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles.
The Blue Devils made it 4-0 with a win at No. 4 singles as Mas. Wenzel earned the 6-1, 6-0 win. Saitove secured the win for Lawrence Tech with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles to give Lawrence Tech a 5-0 lead. Diaz made it 6-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles followed with wins by Patrick Szymczyk at No. 5 singles (6-1, 6-1), Matthew Wenzel (FR/Howell, Mich.) at No. 6 singles (6-2, 6-2), and Bremer at No. singles (6-4, 6-4).
Lawrence Tech is back on the courts March 19 when they face #23 Indiana Wesleyan.
