20th-ranked Lawrence Tech Defeats No. 23 Indiana Wesleyan 6-3 on Monday Afternoon

MARION, Ind. -- The 20th-ranked Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's tennis team defeated No. 23-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University 6-3 on Monday afternoon in Marion, Ind.

Lawrence Tech (13-3) fell behind early in the doubles flights as Indiana Wesleyan earned the opening point with an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles. Lawrence Tech responded with an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles as Stijn Bremer (SO/Arnhem, Gelderland, Netherland) and Jan Horstkoetter (SR/Cologne, Germany) defeated Eli Steiner and Grant Yager to tie the match at 1-1. Daniel Diaz (JR) and Mason Wenzel (SR/Howell, Mich.) made it 2-1 with a hard fought 9-8 (6) win at No. 2 doubles.

The Blue Devils opened singles flights with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 by Bremer to make it 3-1. Lawrence Tech opened a 4-1 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 by Diaz before Indiana Wesleyan cut the lead to 4-2 with a win at No. 4 singles. The Wildcats made it 4-3 with a win at No. 2 singles over Javier Alvarez (SR/Santiago de Compostela, Spain).

Horstkoetter gave Lawrence Tech the win with a 0-6, 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles to secure the win at 5-3. Mas. Wenzel gave Lawrence Tech a 6-3 win at No. 6 singles to finish the match up 6-3.

Lawrence Tech is back on the court March 27 when they travel to Albion (Mich.) College for a 4 p.m. start in Albion, Mich.
