LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University softball team swept their doubleheader over Rochester (Mich.) College 11-2 (6 inn.) and 12-1 (5 inn.) on Wednesday afternoon in Livonia, Mich.

Lawrence Tech (14-10, 7-5) took the early one run lead on the Warriors as Cherilyn Banas (JR/Oxford, Mich.)' RBI single score Bailey Brown (SO/Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) to put LTU up 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning. Brittney Bult (SO/Brampton, Ontario) started in the circle and cruised through the first four innings with six strikeouts, two walks, and no hits.

The Blue Devils added three runs in the second as Bult's RBI single scored Jackie Mattingly (SO/Chino Hills, Calif.) followed by Alex Amos (SO/Corona, Calif.)' RBI double scoring Bult and Meredith Adams (SO/Portage, Mich. ) to push the lead to four runs. Lawrence Tech added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Katie Cyster (FR/Wyandotte, Mich.)'s RBI single to right field scored Brown to give LTU a 5-0 lead. Brittany Wieland (FR/Alexandria, Va.) and Mattingly both reached on an error, scoring a combined three runs to make it 8-0.

Rochester (6-24, 0-12) scored their only runs in the fifth inning off an error, plating Brookman and Hill to cut the lead to 8-2. Bult got out of the inning with a fly out to Banas in centerfield. The Warriors got the leadoff hitter on base in the sixth inning and loaded the bases with two out, but Bult induced a groundout to end the inning. Adams ended the game in the bottom of the sixth, taking a two-out pitch over the fence to earn the 11-2 win, scoring Mattingly and Wieland.

Adams finished game one 2-for-3 with three RBIs, a homerun, and two runs scored. Wieland, Mattingly and Brown all finished with two runs each while Alex Amos added a pair of RBIs.

In game two, the Blue Devils jumped out to a 10-0 lead after two innings and that is all Alexa Cherney (SO/Farmington Hills, Mich. ) needed as she struck out five of the first six batters she faced. Cherney saw trouble in the third with a leadoff triple, but she limited it to just one run off a sacrifice fly to right field. Cherney closed the inning with her seventh strikeout of the game.

Lawrence Tech added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth as Genna Skalski (SO/Brighton, Mich.) RBI double scored Nicole Schwerin (FR/West Bloomfield, Mich.) to give Lawrence Tech an 11-1 lead. Wieland made it 12-1 with an RBI single to left field as the Blue Devils would win the game in five innings.

Cherney went five innings allowing just three hits and one run on nine strikeouts. Lawrence Tech finished the game with five doubles and triple. Bigham went 2-for-2 from the plate with a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored. Banas finished 2-for-2 with a double, a triple, and a run scored.

Lawrence Tech is back on the field Thursday, April 19 when they host Madonna (Mich.) University in Livonia, Mich. First pitch of game one is set for 3 p.m.
