Upland, Ind.- The Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) men's tennis team won their first match of the 2018 season against Taylor University (Ind.) with a final score of 9-0. The Blue Devils have defeated the Trojans in all four encounters they have had. The all-time series score is 4-0.
In the #1 doubles match, Alex Fernandez-Rajal (FR/Barcelona, Spain) and Alexander Tammaro (FR/Caracas, Venezuela) beat Andre Danelli and Christen Jacquottet with a score of 8-3. In the #2 doubles match, Robert Saitov (JR/Ufa, Russia) and Alejo Tintore-Godall (FR/Barcelona, Spain) won against Victor Cheng and Salvador LoCascio with a score of 8-6. In the #3 doubles match, Marc Kerndl (JR/Grafing, Germany) and Lukas Obel (FR/Weybridge, England) beat Stephen All and Seth Graves with a score of 8-6.
In singles matches, Saitov came back from behind after losing the first set and won the match with a score of 5-7, 6-2, and 10-8. Tammaro went to sudden death on the first set, which he lost with a score of 5-7 on sudden death and 6-7 on the game. However, just as Saitov, he came back from behind and won the next two set with a score of 6-4 and 10-6. Fernandez-Rajal won his match with a score of 6-2 and 6-3, Kerndl with 6-2 and 6-2, Tintore-Godall with 6-0 and 6-1, and Viktor Kolesnychenko (FR/Lviv, Ukraine) with 6-2 and 6-1.
LTU will go back to the courts tomorrow morning in the doubles tournament hosted by Marian University (Ind.) in Indianapolis, Ind. at 10:00 AM.
