SOUTHFIELD, Mich.– The (RV) Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's team defeated Grace (Ind.) College, 5-4, at their first home match of the season on Friday, February 15 at the Franklin Athletic Club. With this outcome, the Blue Devils lead the all-time series, 3-1, against the Lancers.
Grace (6-8) took the early lead after winning a pair of doubles flights. Robert Saitov and Lukas Obel dropped their set against Pavle Popovic and Jacob Gray, 8-6, while Alejo Godall-Tintore and Viktor Kolesnychenko fell, 9-7, against Connor Bates and Nick Gruber. However, the duo of Alexander Tammaro and Alex Fernandez-Rajal defeated Max Rozas and Diego Zamora, 8-2.
Despite trailing 2-1 after doubles flights, Lawrence Tech (6-2) built a comeback on singles, winning four and dropping two. Godall and Kolesnychenko notched a double 6-0 victory at fourth and sixth flights, respectively. Despite splitting sets, Fernandez-Rajal (6-3, 4-6, 10-2) and Obel (6-7, 6-3, 10-4) took third and fifth flights. Tammaro fell 6-4, 6-2 at first flight, while Saitov dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision at second flight.
The Blue Devils will return to the court on Friday, February 22 at noon when they host Grand Valley State (Mich.) University at the Franklin Athletic Club.
