Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla.- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University softball team closes its Spring Break trip to Florida with two wins over St. Mary-of-the-Woods College (Ind.), 3-1, and Indiana University-South Bend, 14-2, on Friday, March 15. With these outcomes, the team set the record for largest winning streak in the program's history, nine.

Lawrence Tech (17-1, 0-0) only needed five innings to defeat Indiana University-South Bend (7-2, 0-0). The Blue Devils scored 14 unearned runs, product of nine Titan errors. Alexa Cherney threw over the whole effort, surrendering two runs off seven hits and one walk, and sitting down four off 18 batters.

Alex Amos paced the squad with three runs, while Brittany Wieland and Cherilyn Banas contributed with two apiece. Sarah Hige, Katie Cyster, Meredith Adams, Kennedy Emmons, Gina Barber, Jackie Mattingly, and Bailey Brown pitched in with a run each. Seven LTU batters tallied at least one hit in the game. Hige, Wieland, and Adams were the only Blue Devils that collected multiple-hits. In addition, Adams led the squad with four of the nine team-RBIs.

In the second inning, Lawrence Tech exploded with seven unearned runs. An error by the Titan's third baseman got the Blue Devil runs started. Indiana cut the seven-run deficit to five at the top of the third inning, just to have LTU score three in the bottom of the inning and push the lead to 10-2. Adams sealed Lawrence Tech's 14-2 victory in the fourth inning by scoring Banas from third and Brown from second in the last two runs of the effort.

Faith Barden toed the rubber for LTU against St. Mary-of-the-Woods (3-7, 0-0). The Coleman, Mich. native allowed one run off four hits and zero walks. Barden struck out nine of the 25 batters she faced.

Malburg, Banas, and Haley Mazon scored runs for the Blue Devils. Lawrence Tech collected six runs, Banas led the squad by going 2-for-3. LTU's defense registered 25 putouts; Katie Kubiak contributed with seven of them.

The first two innings of the game were slow, as neither team was able to score. It was in the third inning when Banas stole home to give Lawrence Tech the 1-0 lead. Malburg stretched the lead to 2-0 in the fourth inning with an unearned run. Cyster drove in Mazon with a single in the top of the seventh inning, pushing the lead to 3-0. The Pomeroys chipped away the three-run deficit to two in the bottom of the inning.

The Blue Devils finished the PFX Spring Games with a 13-1 record. Lawrence Tech will be back in action on Sunday, March 24 when the team visits (RV) the University of Rio Grande for a doubleheader in Rio Grande, Ohio starting at noon.
