SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's tennis team defeated Cornerstone (Mich.) University, 6-3, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Saturday, March 24 at the Franklin Athletic Club.
Lawrence Tech (11-6, 3-1) found an early 2-1 edge after doubles action and did not let go of the lead for the rest of the match. Alexander Tammaro (FR/Caracas, Venezuela) and Alex Fernadez-Rajal took first flight against John Cocoma and Tomas Yacuzio, 8-1, while Viktor Kolesnychenko (FR/Lviv, Ukraine), and Robert Saitov (JR/Ufa, Bashkortostan Republic Ru) defeated Nick Kleitch and Dan Ribbink, 8-1, at court three. Alejo Godall-Tintore (FR/Barcelona, Spain) and Lukas Obel (FR/Weybridge, England) fell 8-5 to Aliaksei Kanstansina and Mateo Jimenez at second flight.
Tammaro (6-1, 6-1) and Godall-Tintore (6-4, 6-2) gave LTU the 4-1 lead after defeating Cocoma and Ribbink at court-one and six, respectively. Cornerstone (9-8, 1-3) cut the three-point deficit to one after Saitov (6-2, 7-6(3)) and Kolesnychenko (6-3, 6-2) to Jimenez at second and fourth flights. Fernandez-Rajal secured LTU's victory after winning (7-5, 7-6(3)) at third flight against Yacuzio. Obel (7-5, 4-6, 6-4) defeated Ribbink at court-five to set the final score, 6-3.
Lawrence Tech will be back in the court on Saturday, March 30 at the Franklin Athletic Club when the Blue Devils host Aquinas (Mich.) College. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
