Lawrence Tech Takes Down Indiana University-Southeast and Taylor on the Second Day of IWU Wildcat Invitational

UPLAND, Ind.- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's tennis team defeated Indiana University-Southeast, 5-4, and Taylor (Ind.) University, 6-0, on Saturday, April 6.

Lawrence Tech (14-7, 3-1) had a slow start in doubles action against the Grenadiers as IU-Southeast (8-9, 2-0) took second and third flights and LTU court-one. Robert Saitov and Viktor Kolesnychenko fell 8-2 to Alec Bates and Jerid Inman at second flight. The duo of Alexander Tammaro and Alex Fernandez-Rajal tied the game at first flight after defeating Garrett Fensler and TJ Brady. The Grenadiers reclaimed the lead when Alejo Godall-Tintore and Lukas Obel dropped court-two against Brock Winchell and Daulton Fensler.

Godall-Tintore (6-3, 6-2) and Tammaro (6-3, 4-6, 10-2) gave LTU the 3-2 advantage after taking fifth and first flights, respectively, only to see IU-Southeast regain the lead after Kolesnychenko (2-6, 6-2, 10-6) and Saitov (7-6(5), 6-4) fell at courts-four and two. Fernandez-Rajal tied the match after winning 6-3, 6-3 at third flight. The Blue Devils sealed the victory at court-six as Obel defeated Sam Venter 6-5, 6-4.

Lawrence Tech took an early lead in the match against Taylor (4-15, 3-6) as LTU won all doubles flights. At court-three, Robert Saitov and Viktor Kolesnychenko won 8-1 versus Seth Graves and Maitland Splitters. Adam Alger and Alejo Godall-Tintore took second flight, 8-1, against Victor Cheng and Caleb Hoogerheide. Tammaro and Fernandez-Rajal notched an 8-6 victory at court-one against Christien Jacquottet and Salvador LoCascio.

Godall-Tintore stretched the lead to 4-0 after defeating Hoogerheide with a double 6-0 at fourth flight. Kolesnychenko (6-2, 6-2) and Tammaro (6-3, 6-2) sealed LTU's victory after taking fifth and first flights.

The Blue Devils will return to the courts on Saturday, April 13 to close the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference regular season against the University of Northwestern Ohio. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
