Box Score Grand Rapids, Mich. – Despite a late surge, the Lawrence Technological University men's lacrosse team fell in the opening round of the NAIA National Lacrosse Tournament against the host Aquinas College 10-9 on May 8th.
Leading the team in goals was Brendan Oles and Aidan Nolan who each had three. Damian Hudson had two goals while Dylan Couture had one. Oles led the team in points with four while Maveric Muscat led the team in assists with two.
The Blue Devils stayed with Aquinas for most of the game, with each team grabbing 33 ground balls, LTU having 20 to the Saint's 19 turnovers and neither team capitalizing on any man up opportunities. While the Blue Devils had enough opportunities to score, shooting 52 times, many of the shots were either off target or stopped by the Aquinas goalie who had 12 saves. Also, the Saints dominated the face off, capitalizing three times immediately following, including a last minute goal in the third to put the Saints up 8-5.
While the fourth saw the Blue Devils compete to come back with four goals, including two goals in the final minute and a half of the game with a goal from Nolan fed from Oles and a goal from Couture assisted by Muscat, which put them within one, down 10-9. However, Aquinas won the final face off of the game, controlling the last 30 seconds and securing their place in the semifinals and ending the Blue Devils season.
Lawrence Tech ends their 2019 campaign 11-7, with a 6-2 conference record and grabbing their second appearance in the NAIA tournament.
