Southfield, MI - The Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) men's tennis team has now lost five straight matches in a row, as they lost a close tight fought battle at home on Saturday against a solid Crossroads team in Huntington University. LTU had many chances to win the match in their doubles matches, just could not make enough plays to come out on top. The final in this match was 3-4.
In the #1 afternoon doubles match against Davenport, Alexander Tammaro and Patrick Putschbach started off the day to give LTU the lead early as they were able to beat their opponent 6-4. Following their doubles win, in the #2 doubles match, Lukas Obel and Kevin Bollmann followed in suit and beat their opponent by the same score of 6-4. This gave the team a 2-0 lead going into the third doubles match. Alex Rajal and Luca Roth were the third and final doubles match on the afternoon, and the completed the sweep in doubles matches winning their match 6-4. It seemed like the men had all the momentum going into the singles matches on the evening, but things flipped and Huntington waited to play their best tennis in the singles matches.
In afternoon singles matches, Tammaro started the day for LTU as he lost in the final set. The scores for his match was 6-3, 4-6, 7-10 4-6, 4-6. Pedro Garcia-Orellana was the next singles match and he also took his opponent to the final set as both players were trying to string together a victory for their teams, but Ameller from Huntington made a couple more plays than Pedro to win. The final in this one was 4-6, 6-2, 4-10. Patrick Putschbach was the third singles match, and LTU really needed a win to keep their hopes alive for the win, but Putschbach lost this one in straight sets 1-6, 3-6. The fourth singles match was Alex Rajal, and this was the match of the day. Going to the final set, win or go home for both teams, it was a battle to the end. Rajal took the first set 6-4. Topia from Huntington snagged the second set 1-6. The final set was very intense as the game went to sudden death, as Topia was able to win 10-12. Sealing the victory for Huntington 3-4.
LTU will be back to the courts Wednesday afternoon March 17rd at home at the Franklin Athletic Center.
